Sometimes, the most amazing displays of a mother’s love can be found in the animal kingdom.
That was certainly the case with Dory, a 5-year-old Boxer who found herself abandoned in a church parking lot shortly after giving birth to nine precious puppies.
A Heartbreaking Discovery
When a Good Samaritan spotted Dory and her 2-week-old litter huddled together in Abilene, Texas, they immediately posted a photo on social media, hoping somebody would come to the little family’s rescue.
Thankfully, the plea caught the attention of Paw Angel Animal Rescue (PAAR).
I saw the picture and it just broke my heart,
said Misty Boerger, a volunteer with PAAR
She and her friend Angel Urban quickly set out to find the abandoned dogs.
When they located Dory, she was bravely cuddling her babies, doing her best to keep them safe despite the scary situation.
Upon closer inspection, the rescuers noticed Dory had several wounds that were open and draining. They carefully loaded the canine family into their car and rushed them to the vet.
Devastating News Amid Hope
While Dory’s injuries were treatable, the vet made a heartbreaking discovery – one of her puppies, named Peach, had a tumor in her throat that prevented her from nursing properly.
Because of her young age, surgery wasn’t an option. The difficult decision was made to humanely euthanize little Peach.

Though the loss was devastating, Dory and her remaining pups were able to heal in the care of their foster mom, Misty.
The resilient little family found comfort in each other as they began to thrive in a safe, loving environment.
New Beginnings for a Brave Family
After receiving an outpouring of support and donations, PAAR was thrilled to report that three of Dory’s puppies had already found their forever homes.
The rest of the litter, along with their heroic mama, continue to enjoy each day with their foster family, soaking up the love and attention they so deeply deserve.
Dory’s bravery in the face of abandonment is a true testament to the power of a mother’s love. Her story touched the hearts of people all over, even earning her a fan page.
While Dory and her pups were fortunate to find their happily ever after, their story is an important reminder to never abandon an animal in need.
